Surf spots: places to surf, places to be. This description could apply to many, many areas here in Southern California - from Santa Monica to San Clemente and Trestles Beach. Lower Trestles, the location of the WSL Final events for instance, is very popular. Whether it's low tide or high tide, the long right waves along the Amtrak train line are guaranteed to bring excitement. There is one thing you should definitely be prepared for, however – when you conquer the waves at one of these amazing surf spots, you'll be in plain view of the top dogs of the surfing community. Things are different on a quiet, deserted beach, but this is a meeting place for the surfing scene, a place where people celebrate being alive and the ocean becomes a stage for avid surfers to show what they're made of. Santa Monica, about 1½ hours' drive from Trestles Beach, a place where chilled beach life is infused with the glamor of Hollywood, also has an absolute cult status. It's no coincidence that "Baywatch" was also filmed there. Immerse yourself in the colorful life around Santa Monica Pier and enjoy the unique Californian lifestyle.
The dream of the perfect wave. There's no other place where you can get closer to this than Kelly Slater's Surf Ranch in Lemoore. Kelly himself once revealed that he had been dreaming of this wave his whole life. With a state-of-the-art wave pool, it can be generated at the push of a button. Turns, barrels or aerials: anything is possible. The pool itself is an artificial lake which is 600 meters long and 150 meters wide. The dream wave is triggered by a technical masterpiece, a motorized hydrofoil that sets the water in motion at an angle behind the surfer. Both the size of the wave and its shape and speed can be set in advance. The waves can reach a height of around 2.5 m. The average time spent on a wave is 45 to 60 seconds. And the adrenaline levels? Immeasurable.
